Interview with Cory Doctorow

July 29, 2008

The Teenreads website has an interview with Cory Doctorow, author of the much-acclaimed Little Brother.

Although not available here yet in conventional book-as-we-know-it form, as we mentioned a few posts ago, as an advocate of Creative Commons, Doctorow has made Little Brother available as a free ebook.

The issues that this title raises are highly relevant for our times.

More e-book news

If you followed the link to Interactive Reader in the previous post, you’d have seen that another title, Ingrid Law’s Savvy, is also available as an e-book from the Penguin USA site – but this one can only be accessed (read only) until 20 July, so get in quickly. Teacher’s notes can be downloaded from the Extras tab.

As we mentioned on 19 June, this title was a Boston Globe Horn Book Honor Book, and will be available in Australia in September, so a sneak preview will tell if it’s one to order for your library.

Little Brother e-book

July 15, 2008

We are really grateful to the Interactive Reader blog for alerting us to the fact that Cory Doctorow’s book, Little Brother, is available as a free e-book from his site. We’ve read the reviews (4 stars on Amazon, too) and have been awaiting news of an Australian publication date, but no sign on the horizon yet from any of our sources.

Cory Doctorow is really into Creative Commons, and the book is available in three official formats (Plain text, HTML and PDF) but his many fans have also converted the files into other formats too, with his blessing. He explains why on the site.
